It was rumoured that during the production of Clash by Night (1952), RKO owner Hughes sent word to Marilyn that he wanted to see her. Hughes's wife, Terry Moore, later verified that he did give her a jewelled $500 brooch.  It was also reported that Marilyn once told her voice and drama coach, Natasha Lytess, that she and Hughes had a brief affair.
